This is the act of shooting a heavenly body such as the sun,
moon or stars in successive times to produce a line of position.
Taking the intersection of two lines of position (LOP) results in
a celestial fix, as shown below by the LOPs for the sun and
moon below. Positioning info from the
nautical almanac is
used to determine your location.
Celestial fixes require at least marginal
visibility, to measure the angular
position of the sun, moon or stars.
